Physician & Nurse Practitioner Workforce Teaching & Training Program
Valley Community Healthcare has proudly partnered with the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine since its inception in 2020. Each of the school’s six teaching hospitals collaborates with a nearby community clinic to help students learn about community health. We are honored to have been chosen as the partner clinic for the Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center, a leading teaching hospital in the San Fernando Valley.
- First- and second-year students spend mandatory time each month learning about community health through their interactions with VCH providers and exposure to our community support services.
- Third- and fourth-year Kaiser medical students can choose an elective clinical rotation at VCH.
Community Medicine Rotation
VCH offers a community medicine clerkship/rotation for medical students and nurse practitioner students led by preceptor Roger A. Peeks, M.D. Dr. Peeks is board-certified in Internal Medicine with a career dedicated to primary care. His clerkship/rotation provides an excellent opportunity for hands-on clinical training in adult primary care within a community clinic setting.
Overview
Who Qualifies – Medical and nurse practitioner students approved by their schools to participate for academic credit.
When – Program Dates: Start and stop dates are as flexible as possible to meet students’ needs.
Where – Training Location: Valley Community Healthcare’s North Hollywood Center, which is conveniently located off CA-170 and less than three miles from the Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center.

Introducing Your Valley Community Healthcare Preceptor
The professional healthcare workforce shortage is becoming perilous. Teaching and training at every level is the solution. Our future is our healthcare workforce.
Valley Up! NP/PA Training Program
We offer recent nurse practitioner (NP) and physician assistant (PA) graduates a structured, six-month onboarding experience with dedicated preceptor support. Designed for primary care specialties, this program helps new NPs and PAs build confidence, develop clinical expertise, and prepare to manage their own patient panels in a community health setting.
Training Program Overview
Who Qualifies:
- Fully licensed and certified Nurse Practitioners prior to employment
- Within 2 years post-graduate from a primary care specialty:
- Family Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Geriatric Medicine
- Pediatrics
- Women’s Health
- Must actively participate in:
- Preceptor-led didactics
- Case presentations
- Assigned literature reviews (during and after work hours, as needed)
- Bilingual in English & Spanish preferred.
When – Program Dates & Duration: Nurses are enrolled in our training program throughout the year. Program duration: 6 months
Where – Training location: Training takes place at Valley Community Healthcare within the Federally Qualified Health Center setting. We have two health centers in the San Fernando Valley, conveniently located in North Hollywood (off CA-170) and North Hills (off the I-405).
